POGS

Page 1 of 2Next

Ahh, good old POGs—the wild craze that swept through the 90s and somehow got banned from schools for no good reason at all (It's GAMBLING cried the teachers...apparently). I used to absolutely LOVE them! And now, they’ve released a new Hobby Box—bloody expensive, but it’s definitely got me thinking about the POG days again.

The nostalgia is real, but I can’t help but wonder: does the comeback have a shot at making the same kind of impact it did back in the good old days? With the way things are today—social media, limited-edition drops, and all that—could POGs reignite the same level of madness? Or is it just a fun little blip in the collectible world that won’t have the same staying power?

What do you think? Would the charm of POGs be enough to capture the attention of today’s generation, or is this just a moment for the 90s kids to relive their glory days?

I'm with you on POGS. I was obsessed with them when I was much younger but never really played them as intended but just loved collecting them.

Unfortunately even though POGS are experiencing somewhat of a revival at the moment, I don't think they will reach the same levels of popularity as they did back in the day. It doesn't mean that they aren't an avenue worth exploring from a collectibles point of view.

But who knew that Pokemon cards would go crazy again during Covid, so anything is possible.

Oh wow POGS! Now that brings back some memories, they got banned in my school as some of the students thought it was a good idea to throw the metal kinies at each other.

We also used to collect micro machines to around the same time.
I would love to have some of the stuff I had back then now.

Soon I am going to buy some of the ones I had as a kid and the tubes I'd put them in. Do I also get Tazos eeeek

Even though the 90's was a great time to be alive as a kid when I do look back they didn't half ban things that really didn't need to be.

Yeah Micro machines were are awesome!!

I absolutely remember POG's! I still have my collection, sitting somewhere in my attic, lol! I didn't collect them long and it's very minimal. Compared to the pic in this thread, I have 1 case holder and it's full of them. I'm trying to recall the year, but I think it was like '94 or '95 maybe. If so, I was like 13 or 14 years old depending. I remember teachers were getting mad at us because we were throwing the slammers too hard and being loud & making a mess in general, lol!

So POG's are making a comeback? That's pretty cool, like a nostaglia thing for 90's kids. I think it could easily grab kids attention today, at least for a bit. I mean, if they got all hyped over fidget spinners not that long ago, why not POG's.

Any value on them? For most part, I just had a bunch of random skull, bones, poison drinks, etc. The only brand/name thing I can recall having in my collection was Power Rangers ones that were given out from McDonald's with Happy Meals or whatever it was back then.

Dig them out and post them up mate 🙂

Today the world has gone pretty soft but looking back at certain things like how teachers responded to POG's perhaps things aren't too different lol.

I mean they are definitely pushing for a comeback but I'm not sure how much staying power it has....but who knows right. People often joke that POG's will be the next big investment opportunity in collectibles but again I'd say it was doubtful...without some genius marketing and lots of new POG's released over 5 years at least.

Either way for people like you and myself they have given us some great memories

Thanks for posting and I hope you like the Forum

Will do, whenever I find them, lol!

Yeah, the more things change, the more they stay the same type of thing...I could actually see them getting graded at some point by like CGC, PSA, etc. It seems to me just about everything else is getting the slab treatment, so why not!

Definitely agree with you on the memories, for sure! Yes, I've been enjoying the forum thus far. Thanks for having me!
